    St. John Vianney Church, Bettendorf, IA



    Position: Director of Liturgy and Music Status: Full time, Exempt, 12 months, Health insurance and other benefits available Reports to: Pastor



    Description: Seeking a faithful and joy-filled Catholic to serve as Director of Liturgy and Music to a dynamic parish of 2000 families as principal musician and liturgist. Must have a high degree of proficiency as attested to by formal credentials and a personal performance audition. Ability to conduct, cantor, accompany, and support our large music program.     Major Position Responsibilities and Regular Activities:



    1. Conduct, accompany, or cantor for regular liturgical celebrations including 3 weekend Masses, Holy Days, Sacramental Celebrations, weddings, funerals, and other special events requiring music. Assign other musicians to serve at these liturgies in rotation.



    a. Weekend Masses: 4:30pm Saturday, 8:30am and 11:00am Sunday (current schedule). b. Music rehearsals Tuesday evenings or other, depending on the choir/ensemble.



    c. Meet with couples to plan music and liturgy for weddings. d. Train, direct, and supervise other accompanists and cantors, adult and children’s choirs, instrumental and mixed ensembles.



    2. Create a dynamic and inspiring worship community.



    a. Continue the parish’s history of a strong and varied sacred music repertoire (both traditional and contemporary), introduce new music and encourage congregational participation.



    b. Prepare weekly liturgical items for priests and deacons. c. Actively participate in parish organizations including staff and Liturgy Commission meetings. d. Coordinate and arrange for additional musicians such as instruments for Easter and Christmas e. Must have knowledge of Church teaching on music and liturgy, as well as current practice. f. All other duties as assigned by the pastor.



    Requirements:



    Bachelor’s degree or higher in music required with minimum of three (3) years’ experience within a comparable position. Comprehensive knowledge of Catholic liturgical documents and music within liturgy. Proficient skills in voice, piano, organ, and choral conducting. Strong managerial and budgeting skills needed. Highly organized and proficient in computer, electronic and musical software. Ability to work as a member of a vibrant leadership team.



    Salary Range: $50-75k depending on qualifications
