Anointing of the Sick

Caring for those who are ill, as expressed in the Letter of James 5: 13-15, is practiced through this

special sacrament.  Through prayer, laying on hands and anointing with sacred oil, those who are

seriously ill, preparing for surgery,  or in a weakened condition are entrusted to God’s merciful

love.  The grace of the sacrament helps the sick person unite their own sufferings with those of

Christ, free them from their sins, and give them the courage to face the challenges that illness brings.

Saint John’s offers communal celebrations of the sacrament during Mass during Advent and Lent.

Call either Father James Vrba or Father Ross Epping to celebrate the sacrament individually.  (563-332-7910)
